BROADCASTER - LEAD MELBOURNE RACE CALLER - 6 X OLYMPIC BROADCASTER
Matt’s long race calling career started as a recipient of Sky Racings John Tapp Scholarship for Young Race Callers in 2000. He quickly established himself, becoming Sky’s Sydney Lead Race Caller for over five years.
Matt’s career has taken him all over the work, from the UK to Ireland, South Korea, Germany, Czech Republic, Mauritius, Singapore, Malaysia, Sweden, France and Dubai. Among the many international horse races covered, Matt has called seven Grand Nationals for BBC Radio and was the lead caller for the great race in 2018.
Back in Melbourne, Matt became the lead race caller for Racing.com when, in 2017, legendary commentator Greg Miles hung up his binoculars. He is the regular voice of the Melbourne Cup and calls a catalogue of other events including the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup, along with all of the autumn racing features. In a career highlight, in 2018, he was behind the microphone for Australian sporting history when the might mare Winx took home an astonishing fourth Cox Plate. In 2019, Matt was the winner of The Bert Wolfe Award for Broadcasting Excellence.
Matt has been a key member of coverage teams at 6 Olympics, including Beijing 2008, London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022. He also has two Paralympics, a Youth Olympics and a Commonwealth Games to his list of credits.
More recently Matt achieved a his ambition to broadcast at the world renowned Royal Ascot in 2023.
