SHANE GILLARD
RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSIONER - QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION
Shane is an accomplished and highly experienced executive leader who has spent most of his career working in complex regulatory environments. Over the last 20 years, he has specialised in sports integrity, regulation, governance, and investigation.
Currently, he is Queensland’s Racing Integrity Commissioner, which is a Governor in Council appointed role overseeing the regulatory and animal care responsibilities and requirements of the Queensland racing industry, across all codes of racing – thoroughbred, greyhound and harness.
Shane leads a team of stewards, race day operations and corporate staff, situated all throughout Queensland, helping to ensure the integrity of racing and safeguarding the welfare of racing animals.
He also has oversight of the registration and licensing of animals and participants, including bookmakers, and operates a stand-alone racing science centre to analyse human and animal samples.
For 5 years prior to his appointment as the Racing Integrity Commissioner, Shane was a non-executive Director of Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) which incorporates the company Human and Supplement Testing Australia (HASTA).
He has also held non-executive Director roles in various sporting organisations and is passionate about the connection between community and sport.
Prior to joining the racing industry, Shane spent 12 years at WorkSafe Victoria in a variety of senior roles where he was responsible for a broad range of portfolios including sport, recreation, and racing.
Shane is the current Chair and a non-executive Director of the national anti-bullying organisation, the Bully Zero Australia Foundation.
