Kai Cantwell
CEO, Responsible Wagering Australia
Kai Cantwell has been the CEO of Responsible Wagering Australia since April 2023. Kai has extensive political and government relations experience working in federal minister’s offices, government departments and prior to starting at RWA he worked at international software company, Oracle. Kai has worked in social policy for more than a decade in a range of areas including child protection, welfare, Indigenous affairs and women’s safety. He brings this experience and understanding of social issues to his current role, ensuring that the correct controls are in place to protect vulnerable Australians from gambling harm while also allowing the vast majority of Australians who gamble safely to continue to do so.
RWA is the independent peak body for Australian-licensed wagering service providers (WSPs). Members include Australia’s leading WSPs – bet365, Betfair, Pointsbet, Sportsbet and Unibet. Established in 2016, RWA and its members are at the forefront of promoting socially responsible wagering and advocating for increased standards in the sector. Members are bound by a Code of Conduct and must maintain the highest standards of integrity and probity.
Since becoming CEO in 2023, RWA has strengthened unity across the industry, secured $1 million in annual funding for financial counselling services, championed sensible advertising reforms and enhanced consumer protections, and supported the long-term sustainability of the sector.
